Assignment Objective:
- Utilize the SAS Portal to identify the recommended Curriculum Framework for the subject area you teach.
- Integrate a Big Idea, Essential Question, Concept(s) and Competencies into a lesson or unit plan you are currently teaching or planning on teaching.

Using the SAS Portal, select the Curriculum Framework tab. Use the drop down menu to select the subject area and grade level for your lesson.
- Write a lesson or unit plan using the Curriculum Framework tab in SAS. Click here to download the Lesson Plan Template.
- List the Big Ideas that are associated with your subject area and grade. If your educational role supports students outside of the classroom, locate the Big Ideas for a subject area of interest, or an area/grade level where you could support a collegue's instruction.
- Identify one Big Idea that your lesson plan addresses, and list the essential questions you should pose to your students. Identify at least one concept that your lesson plan addresses and list the competencies you will use to plan instruction and assess this concept.
- Provide a rationale in your lesson or unit plan that articulates why the chosen Essential Question will enhance understanding of the concepts and competencies within the Curriculum Framework.
- After teaching the lesson, conference with your students about how relaying the Essential Question (s) and Big Idea (s) reinforced their understanding of the knowledge and skills you taught. **If you are not currently teaching or support students outside of the classroom, discuss the value of communicating the Essential Question(s) and Big Idea(s) to students. Evaluate why this is important within instruction.
- Write a two page reflection that answers the question, “Did providing this information to your students enhance understanding of the big picture within the selected Curriculum Framework?” **If you are not currently teaching or support students outside of the classroom, write a response that explains how relaying the Big Ideas and Essential Questions to students can enrich their understanding of the big picture within the selected Curriculum Framework.
Your reflection must be at least two double-spaced pages in length.
