Supporting English Language Learners
Assignment Objective:
- Support English Language Learners (ELL) in your classroom using the ELL Overlay. If you don’t currently have ELL students in your classroom, project how you could support any ELL students in the future.

Describe how you could use the ELL Overlay to support ELL students in your classroom.
- On the SAS Portal, under the Curriculum Framework tab, select ELL Overlay and choose the overlay for your grade level that is most appropriate to your subject area (either the Math Overlay or Literacy Overlay). If your educational role supports students outside of the classroom, choose the overlay that interests you.
- Using the overlays for either Listening and Reading or Speaking and Writing, briefly describe how you would modify your instruction to support ELL students who are at each of the levels. Provide specific examples. If your educational role supports students outside of the classroom, explain how you could potentially support other teachers in accommodating to ELL learners.
- Explain how you could use the vocabulary listed in the overlay to teach concepts and competencies to ELL students. Provide specific examples.
Your reflection must be at least two double-spaced pages in length. If you are typing your response directly into the Assessments Tool, include at least five developed paragraphs.
