Using the Curriculum Framework to Design Instruction
As we've examined, Pennsylvania's recommended curriculum framework contains concepts and competencies that align to the standards. Since these are the end result, they are an excellent place to start planning.

Step 1:Use the recommended curriculum framework to find the concepts and competencies that align with the standards for your subject. In addition you can add concepts and competencies that you feel are important for your students to learn. List the concepts as outcomes for the unit of instruction. Use the competencies to develop specific learning objectives. |
Step 2:Use the learning objectives that you developed from the competencies to develop formative and summative assessments that measure your students' knowledge, understanding, and skill level. Ensure that these assessments are fair and are assessing the appropriate level of knowledge:

Step 3:Use the assessments to plan the curriculum from which you will base your instruction. Consider the concepts that you wish for your students to learn and determine the learning progression that would be best for them to follow.
