Curriculum Framework

The Curriculum Framework can be charted as a curriculum organizer which establishes a plan for instruction. In this case the big ideas and essential questions are not related to Pennsylvania Standards, but to the purpose of a curriculum framework itself.

Curriculm Map Example

This curriculum framework shows the structure of how the elements interrelate, from the big picture/big ideas to the measurable details in the competencies. Notice that competencies may be connected or associated with several concepts and the concepts can be connected to more than one essential question. The relationship between the different elements of instruction can be quite complex, which is why planning is so important. In the next topic we will answer the three essential questions that are illustrated above.
