STAR Module 8: Using Positive Confirmation with Students

Key InfoSioux Story

You now have the tools and the skills to design lessons that will enable your students to discover their power. Because of you, they can learn to “be the cause” in their lives.

The following story from the Sioux tradition concludes the course with the reminder that the answers to life’s questions are not out there anywhere. The answers are inside your students. You can help them find those answers and experience who they really are. Enjoy the process!

The creator had gathered all of creation and asked for advice.

He said, “I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it. It is the realization that they create their own reality.”

The eagle said, “Give it to me. I will take it to the moon. They will never find it there.” And the creator replied, “No. One day they will go to the moon, and they will find it.”

Then the salmon said, “Give it to me. I will take it to the bottom of the ocean. I will hide it there. They will never find it.” And the creator said, “No. One day they will go to the bottom of the ocean, and they will find it.”

The buffalo said, “Give it to me. I will take it to the middle of the Great Plains and bury it there. They will never find it.” And the creator said, “No. One day they will cut into the skin of the Earth, and they will find it even there.”

Then the bear said, “Give it to me. I will take it to the mountains and hide it in a cave. They will never find it in there.” And the creator said, “No. They will even level those mountains, and they will find it there.”

Then grandmother mole spoke up, and everyone was quiet. They knew that grandmother mole had special understanding because she lived in the breast of Mother Earth herself. Grandmother mole said, “Put it inside of them.” And the creator said, “It is done.”
