Positive Student Confrontation Practice

1. Read “Positive Student Confrontation Review” in Key Information.



2. Choose ONE of the scenarios below and do the following:
   • Write a Three-Part Confrontation Message
   • Write a Confirmatory Paraphrase followed by a Transition Statement for Re-Confrontation for each student defensive comment.
   • Write a solution and brief closure for each situation.

Scenario 1: The Student with Late Homework

“Others are late too.”
“I had homework in every class.”
“I was sick.”
“I had to go to a family activity.”
“Why are you picking on me?”

Scenario 2: The Student Who Blurts Out

“I can’t help myself.”
“I raise my hand sometimes.”
“Others do it too.”
“Other teachers don’t care.”
“It’s just the way I am.”

Scenario 3: The Student Who Runs in the Hall

“I was going to miss my bus.”
“I have not hurt anyone yet. I’m careful.”
“You didn’t say anything when I ran the other day.”
“Would you rather I were late?
“Everyone does it.”
