Module 6: Mental Models
Students who don’t have clear Mental Models have difficulty with self-responsibility because they don’t know what is expected of them or understand the standards to which they will be held accountable. They often lack consistency, structure, and accountability in their lives as well as ideals and personal standards. They need vision, mission, purpose, organizational skills, and the how’s and why’s of learning. Students who don’t understand expectations or standards for success and self-responsibility cannot learn how to be self-responsible. In this module you will review the Mental Models students need for self- responsible behavior.
At the completion of this Module, you will be able to:
- Explain the concept of Mental Models and how they relate to a student's ability to be responsible and self-directed.
- Identify and describe the 18 Mental Models and the specific instructional strategies associated with each.
- Plan and implement the effectiveness of Mental Models strategies in his/her own classroom.
