Module 2: Personal Power - Choices and Teacher Talk
Students who develop the ability to make choices and decisions based on clear thinking are students who can effectively problem solve. In this Module, you will learn about the first six Personal Power Strategies:
- Making Choices
- Personalizing Choices
- Choose, Pick & Decide
- Stretch, Risk Challenge
- Freedom Phrases
- The STAR Technique
At the completion of this Module, you will be able to:
- Identify and explain specific Power Strategies – instructional strategies designed to help students grow in personal power – and how they can be used in the classroom.
- Explain the value of having students make their own choices about their behavior
- Develop options for student choices in one’s own classroom.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of selected Power Strategies in his or her own classroom, including but not limited to the following: specific communication strategies teachers can use (Choices, Teacher Talk strategies, The STAR Technique)
