Authentic Assessments

Assignment Objective:

Design an Authentic Assessment
40 points Rubric
(30 points required for passing grade)

Create a summative assessment (end of unit lesson or end of lesson assessment) to include in your lesson plan. (This assessment will be an authentic assessment. Please refer to the attached articles regarding authentic assessments if you need clarification of exactly what authentic assessments are.)

  1. Design an authentic assessment for a unit or lesson you are currently teaching or planning on teaching. If you support students outside of the classroom, design an authentic assessment you could share with a colleague who teaches in the classroom or use in the future.
  2. Use Clear Standards in the SAS Portal to align standards to the assessment.
  3. Include a rationale that identifies the characteristics of an authentic assessment and how it will enhance your students' skills and understandings of a concept or topic. Please be sure to write a two- page, double-spaced response. If you are typing your response directly in the Assessments Tool, include at least five developed paragraphs.
  4. Create a rubric that identifies the criteria for success. Be sure to include this in your response.
