Types of Assessments
The American Psychological Association (APA, 1997) adopted a set of learner-centered psychological principles, including one that states, “Setting appropriately high and challenging standards and assessing the learner and learning process—including diagnostic, process, and outcome assessment—are integral parts of the learning process” (p. 1).
There are several types of assessments that measure student strengths, challenges, knowledge, skills, and ability. Implementing a variety of assessments presents a vivid picture of student achievement. The results from these assessments enable teachers to direct instruction to address the instructional needs of students.
