Diagnostic Assessments measure students' background knowledge and skills, including any strengths, challenges or deficiencies they may have in a particular subject area.

Examples of Diagnostic Assessments include:

Diagnostic Assessments may be used before, during, or after instruction to measure which concepts are most and least understood by students. The results of these assessments can then be used to plan differentiated instruction. Diagnostic Assessments are also important in determining when intervention may be needed so that individual student needs are addressed.
