Overview
Teachers who are new to the concept of differentiation might ask the question:
How do you know what is important enough to spend the time differentiating?
Assessment of student needs helps answer this question when it pertains to an individual classroom and students. After this initial assessment, you can focus on applying the M and E in FRAME-CAB:
-
Modifications to Content, Process, and Products of Instruction
-
Essential Concepts as the Core of Differentiation.
This module presents a Standards-Based Model for Differentiating Instruction to help you zero in on the essential concepts and make modifications to your lessons. The model consists of four steps:
-
Determine K-U-Dos (Essential concepts)
-
Pre-Assess students (Based on K-U-Dos)
-
Modify and adapt lesson content, process, and products. Create lessons that challenge and support students based on student needs (readiness, interests, and learning profiles).
-
Continue to differentiate as necessary based on ongoing assessment.
-
