Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
In Frames of Mind, Gardner (1993) says this intelligence involves the skilled use of the body. Characteristic of the Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence is the ability to use one's body in highly differentiated and skilled ways for expressive as well as goal-directed purposes. The core capacities are control of one's bodily motions and the capacity to handle objects skillfully.
- Timing: Individuals with this intelligence have a sense of timing, primarily in physical activities.
- Direct Involvement: Would rather participate, using their bodies, than watch others do something.
- Concrete Experiences: Prefer real, physical events.
- Grace and Precision: Demonstrate grace and precision. In this context, grace means a beauty or charm of movement or physical bodily expression. Precision means exactness in physical movement.
- Physical Performance: They are good at physical performances of all kinds.
- Motor Skills: Have excellent control over their muscular movements.
- Dexterity and Balance: Have natural dexterity and physical balance.
- Healthy Standards: Usually take good care of their health and bodies, especially if they are athletes.
- Express with Body: They gesture and move their bodies to express things.
- Do, Touch, Act: They are doers (not sitters); they may physically touch people and things; and they usually take action rather than sit back and wait.
- Touch and Talk: Communicate with hands and touch people while in conversation.
- Energetic: They feel compelled to move and act. This need to move may appear to others as fidgeting in certain situations.
