Sequential Learners
The sequential learner prefers a step-by-step approach to content. These learners love order. They like to know what to do first, and what to do next. Outlines, numbered lists, and other organization that follows a linear progression is comforting to a sequential learner. Idea or concept maps with circles and lines and no clear beginning or end can make them nervous.
Sequential learners are logical and methodical. They link content to content in a progression that develops into a new understanding. This systematic approach looks at small pieces of content before even considering the big picture. Without understanding and "examining" the details, this learner will struggle to understand the big picture.
When sequential learners approach a web page, they are most likely to read or scan the entire page from top to bottom before following any links to other pages. These learners, if they do follow links to other pages, will often do so very methodically, sometimes following every link on the page if time allows, systematically returning to the home page as a starting point.
