Your perceptual style is your preference in how you view the world. Learners tend to be either abstract or concrete in their perceptions.

Abstract Perceivers
Abstract Perceivers think in terms of symbols, concepts, ideas, numbers, words, emotions, and feelings. The Abstract learner prefers:
- Reading for both information and pleasure.
- Listening to lectures.
- Writing thoughts and ideas.
- Working with symbols, numbers, and words.
- Using an extensive vocabulary.
- Debating ideas with others.
- Discussing theories, ideas, and concepts.
Concrete Perceivers
Concrete Perceivers prefer to utilize real objects, physical reality, physical senses, and movement. The Concrete learner prefers:
- Using manipulatives and hands-on materials.
- Experiencing real things rather than reading about them.
- Participating in simulations of real events or life-like situations.
- Applying ideas in a practical way.
- Learning through the five senses.
- Creating real, practical products.
- Watching a demonstration.
