The following “Suggested Communication Plan” has proven to be successful in helping facilitators make sure they don't inadvertently overlook critical communication. Based on your personal preference, the LMS housing your course, and your institution's expectations, you will modify this sample to develop your own personalized communication plan.

Communication Plan

  1. Check your email. Some students will use this method to connect with you, especially if they are having trouble logging into the LMS.
  2. Log into the LMS and enter your course.
  3. Post a new Announcement if necessary.
  4. Enter Forums.
    • Check “Facilitator Forum” for questions/replies.
    • Check “Questions” for questions/replies.
    • Enter the week's first active discussion forum.
    • Read and grade new posts, entering grades on paper or in Excel.
    • Craft a post to intervene if necessary.
    • Craft a post to wrap or weave if appropriate.
    • Enter next active discussion forum.
    • Follow the same format as above.
  5. Enter any active wiki pages—grade as time allows.
  6. Review student blogs and comments—grade as time allows.
  7. Enter Gradebook.
  8. Enter Messages.
    • Read and respond to new messages.
