Tactual Style
As a Tactual learner you take in information in one or two ways: when you touch and hold objects and/or when you relate to other people. Studies show that 15 to 25 percent of the population favor this style.
Tactual learners often prefer:
- Working with your hands (small motor muscles).
- Discussions and interactions.
- Personal expression and sharing.
- Writing and note taking.
- Quiet activities done alone.
- Pleasant physical and emotional environment.
Learning Online and Your Tactual Style
Because you're using small motor muscles when you type on a computer, online learning may is a good match for you. However, you like to work with others, and working alone may be difficult for you.
Suggestions:
- Get a friend to take the course with you.
- Make a personal connection with your online teacher and others in the course.
- Create your own learning community by communicating with other students — post entries in discussion rooms, forums, and chat rooms. Establish a pleasing work area that is comfortable for you.
- Share what you're learning with a friend.
- Take notes about the content.
- Keep a journal and record what you're learning and why it's important to you.
- If you need technical help, you may be most comfortable calling a friend or a tech support person to discuss what you should do.
