Kinesthetic Style
If you have a Kinesthetic style, you like to use your whole body when you learn. Studies show 25 to 35 percent of the general population prefers this approach to learning.
Kinesthetic learners often prefer:
- Being physically active when learning.
- Learning by doing and direct involvement.
- Keeping communication short and to the point and discussing issues as little as possible.
- Taking immediate action (may appear impulsive to others).
- Participating in recreational activities which require physical movement, such as dance, sports, woodworking, and gardening.
Learning Online and Your Kinesthetic Style
Because you like to move around when learning, sitting still in front of a computer for long periods of time may not be productive for you.
Suggestions:
- Take frequent breaks.
- Use a laptop so you can easily change your physical position and the location where you're working — sit on the floor, lay on the couch, or work at the kitchen table. Take breaks to get up and move around.
- Get exercise, such as walking, stretching, or riding a bike, before and after working online.
- Get up and grab a snack.
- If you have a technical problem, you may be most comfortable just clicking on various buttons until you discover a solution.
