Module 1- Developing Number Sense- Integers Banner

Writing on boardApplying Storytelling and Narrative

The key to developing students who are truly Math literate is being able to help them see that Math is used and practiced in all facets of life. Being Math literate means being able to translate experiences, and available data and information into mathematical problems that can be solved. However, many children and adults cannot make these translations.

This topic will explore the art of telling and interpreting stories that can be read as solvable problems by starting with the use of journal writing in an Algebra class. You will also learn how to set up your own electronic journal or blog as well as use your blog to develop definitions of mathematical concepts or terms.

The journal activities featured in this course can be used or adapted for use with your own students. As you write, think about additional topics that you can use to spark your student’s learning and mastery of number sense.
