Using Manipulatives to Demonstrate Rules of Operation
Number tiles that indicate both positive and negative value can be used to help students grasp the concepts and rules of operations. Positive values are represented by black tiles and negative values by red.

Here is another example that demonstrates the addition of negative numbers. Similarly to the example shown with numberlines, these integer tiles can give students the opportunity to demonstrate their number sense of how negative and positive integers 'behave' in simple operations.
