Solving Lateral Thinking Problems

Assignment Instructions:

  1. On the same web page from activity 3-B-1 (http://www.folj.com/puzzles) click on "Lateral Thinking."

  2. Try to solve problem #7 ("Eggs in a Basket"). Think about your own thought process as you solved the problem and jot down a few ideas you can share with your students.

  3. For more lateral thinking questions, go to: http://www.mycoted.com/Lateral_Thinking

  4. On the left menu, click on "Puzzles" then click on "Manhole covers."
  5. Post to your blog "3-B-2: Solving Lateral Thinking Problems" and answer the following questions:
    • As you think about the question posed on "Manhole covers," at what level of Bloom's Taxonomy do you think this question resides?
    • Do you think that this question qualifies on more than one level of Bloom's Higher Levels? Explain why. Discuss your reasoning in your post.
    • Describe how you would present this problem to your students.
    • In your response, include 2-3 questions (from the Bloom's Taxonomy higher levels - use a copy of the worksheet provide to you in Assignment 3-A-2) that you might ask your students to prompt their learning for this activity. 
    • Post your responses to both the "Eggs in a Basket" and "Manhole Covers" questions

click on "Triangle Ratios." Try to solve this first, then think about how you might use this with students. Describe how you would present this problem to your students.
