The concept of Personal Power appears to hinge on the inner sense of power. That power of self would be believing in and have confidence in what one is able to accomplish. Having a strong sense of Personal Power seems to be strongly connected to feelings and emotions.
The Mental Model concept reminds me of having a sense of direction as to what is right or wrong and knowing what is right and wrong.
From my experiences students who have the low mental model indicators don't do well in school.

I found it uplifting when you said, "Many of them, regardless of "ability level" possess the characteristics that they need to succeed." I also feel that all ability levels can succeed, I just wish that some of my students could see what they are striving for in education.
