5-A-2 Sandra's Submission
After reading the Key Information, some concepts that I found most meaningful and useful to me were:
- Using a large range of learning opportunities. During the school year, I have been trying to introduce several new games and ideas to the students. This year we tried Lacrosse. It was a completely new unit that the students have never tried before. There were no “All-Stars” in the class and everyone’s attention level was high because they enjoyed learning a new activity.
- I also organize groups constantly in the gym. The students are in fitness stations, games, and practice work groups all based on their skill level.
- The students are also given choices that are “motivating and engaging”. At each fitness station, the students have the choice as to what piece of equipment or what exercise they would like to do.
- Using self management has given the students more responsibility. During certain units, the students have the chance to be the doer and the observer. They also are able to have task sheets and or check lists to follow when practicing a certain skill.
- By making sure all of the students are involved during class, it helps keep the activity level high and gives the students another part of the game to learn. (score keepers, referees, and line judges)
Grading Sandra's Submission with the Rubric:
Content and Critical Thinking:
One notable concern is the lack of direct reference to the research quoted. This lack of citation represents an incomplete response.
This submission does include multiple examples and specific references to implementation. There is some link to course content, and the submission reflects a moderate amount of reflection and synthesis, if not much evaluation. In each of these areas the assignment falls into the proficient category. One might argue that there is exemplary demonstration of insight and personal reflection, though it seems that the above contains more reporting than reflection on how the research directly impacts teaching. The total for the Content and critical thinking section of the rubric would be 15...losing some points for the missing citations, and possibly gaining a few for the specific examples. A range of 12-16 would be appropriate for this post.
Mechanics:
The mechanics are fine. The bulleted list includes sufficient information to be considered an acceptable presentation of the required information. 5 points would be awarded.
Total Score:
The total score for this submission would fall between 17 and 21. Notice that it is acceptable to submit a score between those delineated on the rubric. Very rarely will you grade an assignment or other submission that fits perfectly into one column of the rubric.
