Developing Exemplar
5-A-2 Josie's Submission
After reading the key information and the associated articles, there were several meaningful concepts I hope to incorporate in my classroom:
- Classroom environments that support student autonomy tend to enhance intrinsic motivation and self-determination (Pelletier, Séguin-Lévesque, & Legault, 2002).
- Intrinsic motivation decreases when teachers and parents frustrate a child’s need for autonomy (Brophy, 2004).
- Teaching students self-management skills has significant benefits, including decreasing attention difficulties and increasing time-on-task (Knapczyk, 2004). Cooper, Horn, and Strahan (2005)
Grading Josie's submission with the Rubric:
Content and Critical Thinking:
If you compare the above assignment to the Key Information, you'll see that this participant has simply pulled three bullets from the Key Info and dropped them into her response. This represents an incomplete or superficial response on several levels.
- First, there is no explanation for why the particular concepts are meaningful to the participant.
- Second, there is no correlation to course content, and it demonstrates no evidence of reflection, synthesis, or evaluation.
- Finally, there are no examples.
This post is Developing and should earn between a 0-5 for Content and Critical thinking, based on the rubric. Zero would be appropriate in this case. If the participant had reworded the bullets into her own words, a five might have been appropriate.
Mechanics:
For what has been included, the mechanics are fine. However, since there is no paragraphing of ideas and explanations, the score for mechanics would be between 2 and 4.
Total Score:
Total score for this assignment would be between a 2 and 4 out of 30 possible points. This is a clear example of a "developing" (or lower!) assignment submission.
