Large question mark in briefcaseRubrics FAQ

Q: Do I still have to provide feedback beyond the Rubric?

A: The length and complexity of the assignment should guide the length and complexity of the feedback. Providing approval statements, constructive feedback, and feedforward for each assignment is encouraged. Submitted assignments deserve feedback that is specific and more extensive than feedback for a forum post or blog comment.

Q: Can I assign points that are between two columns?

A: Absolutely! In this sample, it might be appropriate to assign a “20” in some cases, rather than a 25 or 15.

Q: Rubrics are taking longer to score. Is there an easier way?

A: Grading with a rubric does take longer, especially at first. Many instructors find that after they are familiar with the descriptors they are able to read an assignment, and if all is well, note full credit for each item and tally the total. The rubrics really come into play when an assessment is missing something. Reviewing the rubric allows the instructor to specify what is missing or weak by noting the item on the rubric and reporting the points earned.
