In Chapter Six, Howard presents a model for White educators to further understand their identity development in terms of cultural competence. Table 6.1 on page 104 shows the thinking, feeling, and acting of a White educator in each of the different stages. In the text, he adds "changing" to the list.
As we discuss rigor, the lifelong learning of culturally competent teachers, assess your current thinking, feeling, acting, and changing. Use the chart provided in Chapter Six if you feel it provides insight into your current location on the journey. Don't restrict your response to only race; think about all the dimensions of diversity we have addressed so far in this course.
