Conclusion

The Questions That Gather Information module introduced you to questioning techniques designed to enhance student understanding and learning. Identifying the best questioning strategies to use while developing student inquires can guide students' thinking and encourage the process of gathering information. In addition, teaching students to ask their own questions and respond to one another serves to further their understanding.

Think back to your initial responses to the questions below. After completing this module, do you still agree with your initial responses? What would you change or add to your initial responses?

  • How could the use of basic questioning advance student learning?
  • How could the use of specific questioning strategies foster students' understanding of content?
  • How could student-led inquiry-based approaches impact student understanding?

1. Take the Final Assessment.

Select and review a unit plan that you currently use (or would like to use) in your classroom. Use the Unit Plan Information worksheet for the unit plan you plan to select. (Note: Please save a copy of this worksheet for use in future module’s final assessment.)

Address the following in regards to the selected unit plan:

  • What types and levels of questions are currently included in the unit plan?
  • Develop at least three questions to incorporate into the unit that will help students to understand the content and encourage them to gather information.
  • Describe how inquiry-based learning is currently included or how it can be included within the unit plan.

Submit a copy of your completed Unit Plan Information worksheet and your responses on the Assessments Tab. (Final Assessment 1.3)
