Module Description

This module explores how teachers can use questioning to advance student learning. Participants will discover how to ask perception, induction, analysis, and same/different questions that encourage students to analyze information. They will also analyze how to teach students how to ask (and identify) questions and reflect on peer comments to deepen student understanding.

PLEASE NOTE: Questions That Gather Information is the FIRST in a series of three prerequisite modules. Since each subsequent module relies on the previous module's content and assessments, you need to take them in this order: Questions That Gather Information, Questions That Work With Information, and Questions That Facilitate Taking Action.

Learning Outcomes

In this module you will:

  • Reflect upon your own questioning techniques.

  • Explore the first level of questioning that advances student learning.

  • Analyze questioning strategies and consider how they can facilitate student understanding of content and the gathering of information.

  • Examine inquiry-based approaches that teach students how to ask and identify questions.

Assessments

Each assessment includes its own customized rubric with specific criteria and the required passing score for that assessment. Completion of all assessments is required. With instructor approval, assessments that do not meet the required passing score can be resubmitted for credit. View the Navigating Module Assessments (PDF) to learn how to access the Assessments for this module.
