STAR - Module 5: Problem Return and Solution Seeking

Child's hand holding an orange puzzle pieceWhen the Small Strategies Don't Work

Teaching students to be self-responsible presents quite a challenge. As you've seen there are many small strategies that you can apply, but sometimes these small strategies just don't work. Sometimes changing student's unself-responsible behavior requires a deeper look at the causes and cycle for the behavior.

In some situations, the results of the behavior including punishments or rewards can reinforce this behavior. In this topic you'll take some time to discuss the differences between discipline and punishment as well as alternatives to punishment. You will also reflect upon the student(s) you selected for your study and attempt to analyze the causes of their behavior.
