Standards Aligned System Module 8: Integrating SAS

Woman looking exasperatedGoal Statements

For students to achieve, teachers must set lofty goals. A clear, concise goal statement will help guide your students on the journey to becoming lifelong learners.

One of the best goal statements ever made is President Kennedy's 1961 speech which resulted in Neil Armstrong and Buzz Alden walking on the moon in 1969. When Kennedy made his famous speech NASA was having difficulty launching rockets, and many people thought that his statement was fanciful. With this simple goal, Kennedy inspired success, and in less time than it takes to to educate a student, men walked on the moon.

A clear, concise goal statement helps students understand what is expected and challenges them to achieve results. It also helps you align your instruction to meet the goal. More importantly, a goal statement helps you think about your teaching and the affect it has on students' lives.
