For this activity you will need to set up a meeting time for your small group chat. Use the World Clock Meeting Planner to decide on a time and day that will work best for the entire group. When a time and date have been set, one person from the group will send that information to the instructor using the message tool.

1. In your chat discuss what you perceive is the value of each of the four approaches; the synthetic approach, the analytic approach, onset and rime or decoding by analogy.
2. Describe which approach is the best to teach your students phonics, and explain why this approach stands out from the rest.
