Describe how you would go about selecting a book to teach phonetic elements.

  1. Reflect on how you were taught to read. Do you recall learning phonics? How does phonics relate to theories of learning language that we covered in Module 1?
  2. Research what books are commonly used to teach phonics. For instance, Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat" is often used to teach the short "A." List five of these books in your post.
  3. Explain what a child must know before learning phonics from these books.    

NOTE: For Activity 3-C-1, you will need to set up meeting time for your small group chat. Use the World Clock Meeting Planner to decide on a time and day that will work best for the entire group.
