After completing this module you will be able to:
- Differentiate between phonological awareness and phonics
- Explain what a student must know in order to use phonics to decode words
- Describe phonics generalizations and develop strategies for teaching them
- Explain why phonics generalizations can be frustrating for some children to understand
- Develop strategies for teaching phonics using the synthetic approach, the analytic approach, onset and rime, and decoding by analogy
- Create formal and informal assessments to measure and track your student’s ability to decode text using phonics.
