Module One: Generational Traits and Educational Overview

In this module, you will explore the various generational levels, define Digital Natives and Digital Immigrant, and identify how different generations use technology. You will also compare the traits of Boomer-centric and Net-Generation schools, determine the differences between them, and began to develop ideas to transition your classroom to meet the needs of Digital Natives.

Module Two: Overcoming Obstacles to Change

In this module, you will explore how to apply change management techniques, analyze the digital divide and the impact it has on education, distinguish why it is important to encourage girls to use technology, and determine common threats when it comes to Internet/technology safety and methods to combat them.

Module Three: Evolving Roles

In this module, you will explore the roles of students, teachers, parents, administrators, and others in the schools in the 21st century. You'll consider the changing roles and responsibilities of each of these individuals as teaching and learning in schools continues to evolve.

Module Four: Teaching Methods

The decisions that teachers make about instruction fall primarily into two broad categories: what to teach and how to teach it. Much of what you teach is mandated, at least at a comprehensive level, by your district. You have much more flexibility in determining how you will teach the content. In this module, you will explore multiple teaching methods designed to deliver content effectively to Net-Generation learners.

In this module, you will investigate and evaluate several instructional practices that can be used to most effectively engage and educate Net-Generation students. You will also consider how you might implement these strategies into your current classroom.

In this module, you will analyze why games are appealing and the various game types. You will also interpret how to use the mechanics found in games to motivate students.

In this module, you will explore the elements and educational applications of the semantic web, wikis, blogs, and various multimedia.

Module Eight: Social Learning

In this module, you will consider three areas of technology that can be used to address the Net-Generation's learning needs. You'll evaluate their use in your classroom to meet the needs of your learners.

Module Nine: On the Road

In this module, you will examine the various types of mobile devices, apps, and media and determine how to use mobile learning in your classroom. You will also identify future technologies and finalize your unit plan geared for the Net-Generation.
