- Unself-responsible language is so common in American culture, it can be difficult to detect. Click Tests & Quizzes and select 3-B-1: Self-Check to take a 10-question “quiz” on recognizing self-responsible language.

Chat - 15 points
- Make sure you've coordinated a time for your chat with your small group. Your facilitator has assigned you to a group.
- As a way to debrief the Self-Check, answer the following questions:
- Did you agree with all of the feedback?
- What did you learn or realize about self-responsible and unself-responsible language?
- How might you apply what you learned to your classroom?
- In your small group chat session discuss your answers with your classmates. Your facilitator will grade your contributions to the small group chat using the Chat rubric.

I Can't Antidotes
Forum - 14 points (9 points for the post and 5 points for the reply)
- “I can’t” is one of the most commonly used unself-responsible phrases. There are several simple, short Teacher Talk phrases you can use that are “antidotes” for “I can’t.”
- Read “PP Strategy Ten: ‘I Can’t’ Antidote” in Key Information. Review the Key Information "Perspective on I Can't."
- Read “Act as if” on page 70 in the book Teacher Talk.
- Comment on ONE of the following:

Briefly describe a situation that occurred in your classroom or at home when you could have used one of the “I Can’t” Antidote Teacher Talk skills:

Predict where and when you will be able to use one of the “I Can’t” Antidote Teacher Talk skills and briefly describe your predicted incident.
