Reading Theories
Theories are possible explanations for what we see happening in the world around us. Reading theories give us another "lens" through which to view ourselves, our teaching, and our students. The two selected theories of reading for this course seem to best address the needs of content area teachers as they plan instruction and assessment for a diverse student population. Both look at the power of background information in the comprehension of text.
