Adaptability and Risk Taking

Computer monitor with antique typewriter. Monitor displaying "evolve."Overview of Existing Resources

The previous topic helped you understand the importance of adaptability and risk taking their importance, but stopped short of suggesting new instructional strategies. There may be no easy answers to this challenge, but many educators, professional developers, and educational leaders have already struggled with the problem of how to teach adaptability and risk taking to their students—and to their faculty. You can learn from their efforts, including their failures.

This week you will be exploring a wide variety of existing resources. In addition to reviewing the information in the enGauge 21st Century Skills report, you will revisit the Partnership for 21st Century Skills framework. As inspiration for developing your own instructional ideas you will also explore special education strategies, professional development strategies, and ways that video games help students learn to be effective risk takers. In addition, you will explore some educational blog posts on the subject.

Finally, in this segment you will be asked to work in small groups collaboratively brainstorming ways that teachers might be able to teach adaptability or risk taking to their students.
