We are starting this course together with an overview of the Read/Write Web, or Web 2.0.
First, watch this video introduction to the Web 2.0: The Machine is Us/ing Us
Next, read this article from TIME magazine:
You — Yes, You — Are TIME's Person of the Year, Time, December 17, 2006
In 2006, Time magazine chose “You” as its Person of the Year. Rather than selecting a single individual who shaped our experience as it has in the past, Time has emphasized the profound impact of the community at large. “You” were chosen because the emerging Web tools have started a “revolution” of creating and sharing. “It's a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter.”
Reflection Questions
As you watch the video and read the article, consider the following questions:
How does this Web 2.0 revolution affect our culture?
- How can people filter and select the best content from everything now available?
- How might this revolution affect what you do in the classroom?
