Learning Activity 5-B-3

Podcast in the Classroom

[Blog or Podcast]

For this activity, you have two options. You will respond to a podcast created by someone else, but you can respond either in writing through a blog post or by recording your own podcast.

First, find a podcast that you can use with your students. You can select either a single episode or a podcast series.

Option 1: Blog Response
  1. In a blog post, describe how you would use the podcast in your classroom.
  2. Include a rationale of why you selected this particular podcast.
  3. Provide a link to the podcast you chose.
Option 2: Podcast Response
  1. Plan a podcast. This podcast can be short; 2-3 minutes is fine. You can write a script, but it will sound more natural if you just use an outline or notes.
    1. Describe how you would use the podcast in your classroom.
    2. Include a rationale of why you selected this particular podcast.
  2. Record your podcast using one of the options below.
    1. Audacity allows you to record your podcast on your computer; directions are provided in your book on pages 118-120.
    2. Podomatic allows you to record your podcast online.
    3. Garageband (free software on Apple computers) allows you to record your podcast on your computer.
    4. Record with an mp3 player or digital recorder.
  3. Post your podcast on your blog.
    1. Create a new post and introduce your podcast in text. Include a link to the podcast you selected for your classroom activity.
    2. Upload the mp3 file for your podcast.
    3. Publish your post.
  4. Test your podcast to verify that it is working. If you are having technical difficulties, you may wish to check Wordpress Support for assistance.
