Models
Amalia is trying to teach her eight grade students the basic concepts and structure of the US Government. She has them participate by building a living map of the government structure including the Congress, The President, the Supreme Courts. Each student participates as a member of one of these offices.
Prompts
Jane uses writing prompts to help reinforce learning. For example, she has the students write a fairy tale for using ratios in a proportions.
Hints and Cues
Think about - "I want you to think about presidents who were assassinated." I want to to think about this in this way.

Hint - remember when we covered .... the US presidents and their administrations?

When first teaching a grammar concept to students, Janice walks them through examples of the particular grammar or writing craft skill. She then asks them to identify correct examples from several sentences written on the board.
Think-aloud Modeling
As Jarad solves a problem at the board he models the process of thinking aloud. Jarad has his students think out loud when solving a complex math problem at the board.
Partial Solutions
Examples of problems that have partial solutions:

5/15=1/? --- need to find the 'blank'  or unknown
Direct Instruction

Providing instruction on the topic.

Step 1: Teacher models how to diagram a sentence on the board.
Step 2: Students diagram a sentence along with the teacher.
Step 3: Students work with a partner to diagram a new sentence.
Step 4: Students diagram a third sentence on their own.
